Manoir de l'Automobile
Welcome
We always find with pleasure the ancestors of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The oldest car in the museum is the De Dion Bouton 1899. Alongside it is a copy of the famous Taxi de la Marne; the 1920s are also represented with the Citroën 5HP and the Renault NN; post-war cars with the 4CV, Dauphine, 203, Traction, 2CV, Aronde... All these popular cars in the noble sense of the term.
About Us
The Manor of the Automobile and Old Trades
About thirty years ago, this Breton manor was still just a farm . It’s hard to imagine that in place of this manor, there were once cows, pigs, chickens and horses in dilapidated buildings. When Michel Hommell, originally from Lorraine, bought the Cour Neuve farm , he knew that his dream would not come true in a day. He, who was looking for a place for his cars scattered everywhere, collected since the age of 18 , fell under the spell of the small village of Lohéac. More than 15 years of work and hundreds of site meetings with local craftsmen were necessary to build and bring this large-scale complex to life.
Today, it is one of the finest museums in Europe dedicated to the history of the automobile. 15,000 m² of exhibition space in a 17th-century manor house. More than 400 vehicles (including 30 horse-drawn carriages, 50 motorcycles, and bicycles) of all types, ages, and nationalities evoke a century of automobiles. Around a hundred mannequins in period clothing enliven all the collections and the thousands of objects on display.
Throughout your visit, you will discover unusual things, such as this still, witness to a time when the production of alcohol was common in our countryside with the right of home distiller.
The most common objects rub shoulders with racing cars from all times, such as the Colibri, the famous offshore racing boat that belonged to the pilot Didier PIRONI and in which he lost his life in a terrible accident.
This is all the Manoir de la Cour Neuve, a mixture of power and the melancholy of the Roaring Twenties.
The Manor of the Automobile and Old Trades is also:
- A model area with 30 dioramas and more than 3,000 miniature cars of all makes and formulas.
- A starting grid of 18 Formula 1 cars
- The engine chapel (original presentation of the history of engines), a reconstructed garage and gas station from yesteryear…
A projection room. - A 1930s guinguette with its barrel organ, a cider bar and a video game area and a shop.
- The reconstruction of around twenty shops (hairdresser, butcher, dentist, seamstress, taxidermist, etc.).
- A racing circuit (2.5 km long) open for rental (driving schools, individuals, clubs, etc.).
- So don’t hesitate to come and visit this extraordinary museum. During the holiday season and on certain weekends, you can enjoy a glass of cider and a delicious crêpe at the Manoir’s cider bar.
